After a snowfall in the St. Bernard’s Pass we are greeted on the other side of the tunnel by a strong north wind. On Saturday the 24th of February we checked onto the Tunisian ferry Cartage.
Built in 1999 and made for 2500 people this ferry is the pride of the Tunisians. But, even the hardiest vessel begins to sway in the strong seas.  However, we still reach La Goulette by Tunisia in almost 24 hours. Unfortunately, we do not have enough time to visit the capital of this 163,610km2 land.
By dusk we reach Nabeul, set up camp and try to acclimate by mingling with the locals – a task which was quite easy since a colorful cultural palette and a noticeable number of annual visitors makes the locals accept us with open arms. Visits to the cybercafe and the bank go without a hitch. Approximately 9,057,000 people live in Tunisia. Daily temperatures average around 20 c. In two days we want to travel to Libya. So we set off on our way along the coast. Along the roadside we constantly find opportunities to refill our fuel.  Cheaper fuel from Libya is offered in large canisters. Near the coast we pitch our evening camp.  A single wind whistles from the sea and it is bitterly cold. Tomorrow we will move on to Libya (If we are permitted to enter). One thing is for sure though. We will certainly visit Tunisia again.
